Sanwei Zhang

    Sanwei Zhang, is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.


    She started learning piano since the age of 5. At 15, she as the winner of Shenyang Conservatory of Music Concerto Competition and performed Grieg Piano Concerto in A Minor with Shenyang Youth Symphony Orchestra. Later, she participated several major piano competitions home and abroad, including Concert Artist Guild Competition, NEC Piano Concerto Competition, 14th Hong Kong - Asia Piano Competition, Berlin Music Festival Piano Competition, and the 4th Gulangyu Piano Festival National Piano Competition. She also worked with many musicians, such as Prof. Hongkuan Chen, Prof. Matti Raekallio, as well as renowned violinist Donald Weilerstein and his Weilerstein Trio. She also performed Beethoven Piano Trio in the master class by Alfred Brendel, one of the greatest pianists in the 20th century.


    Sanwei’s musical journey has left her footprints all over the world. She held her solo recital, concerto, and chamber music concerts in Steinway & Sons Music Hall, Jordan Hall, German Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Shenyang Conservatory of Music Concert Hall, etc. In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Chopin's birth in 2010, she performed Chopin’s Variations on “Là ci darem la mano” from Mozart’s "Don Giovanni" at NEC. As part of the chamber ensemble, she performed Beethoven's Piano Trio Op. 1 No.1 in Jordan Hall's Chamber Music Gala concert. 

    At the age of 12, Ms. Zhang was admitted by Shenyang Conservatory of Music the Affiliated Middle School in Dalian. There, she studied with Prof. Xiaoqiang Wang and Steinway Artist Prof. Danwen Wei. She earns her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance from New England Conservatory from 2009 to 2015, where she studied with Prof. Alexander Korsantia. Followed by another full grant, she continues her study in Doctoral of Music Arts degree with Prof. Awadagin Pratt at the University of Cincinnati majoring in Piano Performance.
