Pianist Yehong Shi has been noted for his expressive and sensitive playing in both his native China and the US. As a soloist, he has performed at Yanjiao Music Hall (2003), Dayou Music Hall (2004), Music Hall of Central Conservatory of Music School (2004 and 2005), “Golden Source Epoch” (2005), Baishan Music Hall (2006 and 2007), Enjizhuang Music Hall (2007 and 2008), Guangren Art Center Music Hall (2007 and 2008), “A Western-Style” Music Hall (2007), Greenfield Music Hall (2012,2015), Ganz Hall (2016), Scott Hall(2016), Preston Bradley Hall of Chicago Cultural Center, (2016). His awards include the winner of Dayou Music Competition; The winner of Chinese composition Award and second prize winner of Sonata Award of Qingdao Music Festival in 2007; Finalist of the Piano Concerto Competition of The First Zhouguangren piano summer institute in 2006; Finalist of Piano Concerto Competition of Manhattan School of Music in 2015. Second prize of Rondo Forma Piano Competition, 2015. Second prize winner of BMC Zimmerli piano competition(2016).
Mr. Shi started to learn piano when he was 10 years old when there was SARS in China where all the schools closed for more than 3 months. He had a piano in his home and had fun with it. His mother immediately found the prodigious musical talents dwelling inside him and took him to take piano lessons after the SARS got controlled. His talents were rapidly discovered by Professor Zhou Guang Ren, who suggested that he pursue a career as a concert pianist. Young Yehong Shi established a large repertoire and fresh musical style by performing around Beijing. Mr. Shi completed his Bachelor of Music degree atManhattan School of Music under the instruction of Dr. Solomon Mikowsky, Mr. Alexandre Moutouzkine and Dr. Marc Silverman. He completed his Master of Music under the instruction of Dr. Wael Farouk in Roosevelt University Chicago College of Performing Arts. Mr. Shi is currently studying with Professor Awadagin Pratt at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in the Artist Diploma program.
